Background on the Blatchley's

Hi! Hopefully this short segment will give you an idea of what’s happening in our world now…and what brought us to this point. The growth we’ve seen in our ministry here in the Philippines can be attributed to one key principle: we do our best to pay attention to the small things; we prioritize the children and the poor. Even the Muslims respect us for that.

My life serving Jesus began early. I was adopted by a pastor when I was young and began teaching Sunday School as a teenager, eventually becoming a leader of the teens church group. My goal was to always keep the message of God dynamic and relevant to the lives of the young people I taught. After high school, I received a BA degree in Bible from Trinity Bible College and a MA degree in Cross Cultural Communications.

My wonderful wife Sandy is a gifted musician and a talented children’s worker. Her talents include clowning, puppeting, drama, mime, and much more. We have three sons, all of whom enjoyed working with us in all our missions work while growing up.

We have been missionaries with the Assemblies of God since 1983. Our initial tenure was in Thailand (from 1985-1995). There we worked with refugees, church planting, and first created the Family Circus Children’s ministries. In 1995 we moved to the Philippines and have continued our Family Circus ministries to the lost and hurting children to this day. In my spare time I write cross-culturally relevant resources for children’s pastors and leaders. I am honored that throughout my years in ministry, more than 30 countries use my children’s church curriculum weekly. God is good!

Near the end of 2007, we began using a new tent for our outreaches. For the sake of our team here, we had hoped that the attendance and growth we’re experiencing would stabilize at about 4,000-5,000 per week for the next couple of months. But it looks like we have to settle for over 7,000! It’s incredible what’s happening, but trying to keep the growth manageable is our biggest challenge. In fact, we’ve consistently had “problems” with not having facilities big enough to accommodate the growth, but this new tent is the biggest thing we’ve had to date…and even as large as it is, we need multiple services to fit everyone. Thanks to Speed the Light, we have a wonderful sound system to minister to the thousands we see every week in the tent.
