We give so others can speed the light of the gospel to a world in darkness. Speed the Light (STL) engages, teaches, and disciples our youth in God’s mission to reach the lost! This is accomplished by creating a heart of missional generosity in students for the world's needs and our missionaries' needs. Students are challenged to sacrificially give to missions, reach the lost in their own area, and pray for missionaries around the globe. Funds raised through STL go to help missionaries travel faster, preach clearer, and be heard louder in order for all to know Jesus.
Speed the Light is a student-initiated, volunteer, charitable program. It began in 1944 after Ralph Harris, then head of the National Youth Ministries department, prayed for a way to give Assemblies of God students the opportunity to help missionaries in their work. Nearly 80 years later, STL is one of the most effective youth missions ministries in existence. Since its beginning, over $395 million has been raised for missionary equipment around the world. STL is still helping to disciple students to live a life of generosity as they become personally responsible for the mission of God by helping our missionaries make Jesus known throughout the world.
With a new generation of youth being All In to spread the gospel, there is no limit to how we can help reach the lost, restore the broken, feed the hungry, house the orphan, and impact the world water crisis. We are only beginning to see what God will accomplish through this generation.
Speed the Light and BGMC are now under the umbrella of NextGen Missions! Each ministry still has its own separate identity and function, but they now have greater synergy and focus in cultivating a heart of missional generosity in the next generation.
